Nutrition and Wellness for Seniors

Optimal Longevity

fitness-nutrition-for-seniors-longevity

There is much wisdom to be learned from people who live vibrant long lives with little disease. Reading scientific articles and books about populations that have enjoyed optimal health and longevity has had a profound influence on my teaching.

I highly recommend reading the Blue Zones books by Dan Buettner, The Okinawa Program and the Okinawa Diet Plan by Drs. Bradley and Craig Wilcox and Makoto Suzuki, Healthy at 100 by John Robins, and The China Study by T. Colin Campbell and Thomas M Campbell. My book (Healthy Dividends: Investments in Nutrition, Movement, and Healthy Habits that Pay Off) also has a heavy emphasis on eating for longevity.

I have been giving presentations at senior centers since 2005. I enjoy working with this population. They are kind, generous, and patient.

Healthy Aging Groups/Associations/Senior Living:

I have given presentations at over ten Massachusetts Association on Councils of Aging annual meetings.

In October 2019, I presented, “Nutrition Boosters and Busters for Longevity,” at the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) Conference in Florida. In the Fall of 2020 and 2021 I presented virtually at the ICAA conferences.

I have presented live and virtually for a senior fitness group, the Canadian Fitness Professionals (Canfitpro) conferences, and senior living facilities in Massachusetts, Washington DC, and Canada. I have also presented numerous virtual seminars for seniors through an insurance company, as well as MyHealthAngel, a group that provides engaging programming for seniors.

Here's what seniors have said about my seminars:

"...She's wonderful. Well versed, able to answer any questions. She's outstanding. Tricia's workshops are always good. Loved the hands on learning. Fabulous. Perfect! Lots of great info. Fun and informative. I learned so much. Excellent information. Eye-opening. Great as usual!!! Outstanding- double session next year. Amazing. Knows the material well and is passionate about it. Inspirational. The lecture and slides were excellent. Tricia Silverman is very organized and a good speaker. She knows her stuff and better yet can explain what she knows. I loved it all.
